"It's been 8-years since my wife Adriana and I have come down here," said John Olmos. "We walked all over town, shopped and ate delicious lobster. What a great time."
The beauty of the hotel, its Mexican ambiance, impeccable service, exquisite
food and drinks attracted Hollywood stars and filmmakers making the Rosarito
Beach Hotel the place to be for the rich and famous.
Guests included Orson Wells, Edward G. Robinson, Robert Stack, Gregory Peck,
Vincent Price, Robert Preston, Spencer Tracy, and Anthony Quinn. One guest, Ali
Khan, son of the Shah of Iran, visited the hotel in 1954 accompanied by sultry
movie star Rita Hayworth.
The Rosarito Beach Hotel was visited by Marilyn Monroe, Lana Turner, Joan
Bennett and Kim Novak. A sign above the lobby entrance states: "Through this
door pass the most beautiful women in the world."
The PFO Group also enjoyed the Baja Blues Fest as Saturday at the hotel was so special with some of the best Blues artists from California provided a festive atmosphere with proceeds going to 6 local charities.
We made a trip to Ensenada to fish on the Gamefisher Ensenada with Captain Mike Slater. The Gamefisher is a nice a boat as you will find anywhere and Captain Mike Slater worked his tail off to find us fish. Unfortunately, it was just one off those days where we just didn't find the right kelp. We trolled by the First String in 72 degree water, found several vacant kelps, saw over 20 blue whales and had great meals.
In a continuing tradition, the PFO Group also brought over 30 bags of clothing to be distributed to a very poor orphanage in Tijuana, Baja California. This particular orphanage is off the radar in terms of receiving help. The walls are literally coming down in a single room where over 40 boys and girls have shelter. The entire group contributed to this effort hoping to make a difference in the lives of some of our dear friends to the south.
Cruz Soto from Wilmington, CA collected over 40-bags of clothing and other essential and delivered them to Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach. Don Ashley from Pierpoint Landing contributed tooth brushes, soap, shampoo, and more items for every single child. "This has become a very important part of every PFO trip to Rosarito Beach," said Ashley. "Pierpoint Landing is proud to be a part of it."
Drey and Lokey Rincon rode horses, ate Baja cuisine, walked through the town and felt like they had left the stress of the world behind. "The people down here just seen to be happier," said Drey.
RT Soriano had just spent the previous week with his children camping on a beach near Rosarito Beach but couldn't resist a return trip with the PFO gang to Baja. "The Rosarito Beach Hotel is phenomenal and I had a great time in town meeting some great new local friends," he said.
At night, Cruz Soto, Alex Hernandez and some others from the PFO group paid a gentleman $10 to set up a giant bonfire on the beach directly in front of the Rosarito Beach Hotel where they sipped down chilled bottles of Corona beer under a beautiful moon until after midnight.
We also did our first live BAJA NOW RADIO SHOW from the Rosarito Beach Hotel. The show featured some great things for you to do in Baja and included interviews with some of the great people who came down to Baja with PFO. This was the first of what we hope will be many more live shows form beautiful Baja California.
There was a lobster dinner in Puerto Nuevo, a great carnitas dinner at Flor de Michiocan in Rosarito Beach, people watching in the lobby of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, and the hospitality of some of the most gracious people on the face of this earth; the people of Baja California Norte.
The next PFO trip to Rosarito Beach is being planned now. Text or give Philip a call for all the details at 424 237 0250. Great times await you in Rosarito Beach.
