Henry Winkler, actor, producer and best-selling author of 17 children's books is best known for his role as the Fonz on Happy Days. 

What you probably don't know is that he is an avid fly-fisherman who favorite spots to fish are Montana and Idaho.

 

In I've Never Met an Idiot on the River, a delightful collection of humorous anecdotes and heartfelt observations.

 Henry shares the joy and wisdom he's accumulated while honing his skills as a fly-fisherman.

 

An accomplished sportsman who meticulously records the measurements of every fish he hooks, Henry learned that his yearly trips to the river are not just about catching trout.  More importantly they are about adopting the proper perspective on life.  Or as he puts it "the river acts like a washing machine for my brain," recharging him and reminding him that anything is possible. 

 

This book is about life, family, relaxation and love. Henry shares his love of angling with his wife, Stacey, and their three children, Jed, Zoe and Max.  On the river, Henry developed the confidence to publish his outdoor photography in this, his first non-fiction book.

Striper King Classic at Diamond Valley Lake is Aug. 27

  Diamond Valley Lake has experienced a Renaissance in 2011. Just one year ago, the water was 100 feet below its current level. This created a myriad of problems that in the end resulted in much slower fishing.

That is all in the past as the Lake is providing anglers with some incredible angling opportunities this year.

 

  Pam Sharp from Torrance made a recent tip to the Lake for striper fishing and she   was not disappointed."We all caught fish and had a great time," said Sharp. "I can't wait to go back."

 Sounds like perfect timing for the Striper King Classic at Diamond Valley Lake. The tournament is giving away thousands of dollars of quality raffle prizes including a $1,000 first-place prize from Last Chance Bait and Tackle from Hemet.

  The tournament is expecting as many as 250 participants and will donate funds to the Valley Wide Recreation and Parks and the Police Activities League of Hemet and San Jacinto. There will be a live "Guide Auction" and a huge raffle for fishing gear and more.

According to the Jim Matthews News Service, fishing has been outstanding.

 "The striped bass bite has stayed pretty much wide open at Diamond Valley Lake for the past two weeks with the fish showing in boils and in deeper water for bait and troll anglers.

Lots of four to eight-pound fish with some to nearly 26 pounds again this past week. Add in the hot bluegill, bass, and catfish action, and it’s easy to make this lake a top pick," reported Mathews.

Adult tickets purchased in advance are only $40 and kids under 12 are $10. Besides entry into the tournament, you will also have a great lunch catered by Ojo de Agua Taquerias and a $5.00 raffle ticket.
