Thursday, September 12 was another magical day of whale watching on board the Christopher out of Harbor Breeze Cruises in Long Beach, California. Captain Chris Batts shut the engines of the Christopher off and was surrounded by 6 blue whales.
The leviathans were lunge feeding on krill and seemed oblivious to the presence of the whale watch vessel and her excited passengers. “We were essentially trapped,” said Batts. “There was no way for us to leave so we just enjoyed a breathtaking spectacle of nature.”
Thursday was the best whale watching day in several weeks as copious amounts of krill have attracted the largest creatures to have ever inhabited the face of the earth.
Also on board was the affable Chris Kitson who traveled from Palm Beach Florida to go on his very first blue whale watch adventure. Kitson, who is sight impaired was sure that he would be able to see the mighty blue whales and he was not disappointed. “This has to be one of the best adventures I have ever been on in my life,” he said.
