As tropical storm Lorena approaches the Baja Peninsula, the
Associated Press was reporting that the port of La Paz was closed however, Phil
Friedman Outdoors sources in La Paz are reporting that boats have been entering
and leaving the port of La Paz all morning long and continue to do so this afternoon.
“Our panga fleet is out and catching fish,” said Jonathan Roldan from Tailhunter International. “If the port were closed, we would have been stopped from fishing today.” Roldan said they had heavy rain at daybreak in La Paz but it’s been clear since then. More important, there has been and still is very little wind today. “It’s beautiful here now,” said Roldan as he watched two yachts leaving the port of La Paz on Friday afternoon.
“Not only are our boats out today,” said Roldan, “but they are reporting excellent dorado fishing.”
Further south in Cabo San Lucas, the port has just been closed according to Janet Hernandez Lozada from Pisces Fleet. "All of our boats are headed back in," said Hernadez Lozada. "We are just starting to get a little wind with steady light rain."
The storm is expected to make landfall on the Baja Peninsula later this evening or early Saturday morning. Phil Friedman Outdoors will continueto provide updates on Tropical Storm Lorena.
