Great time on board the Enterprise as we completed another great weekend of Fishing with Phil, with only one more left to go. It wasn't that fish was wide open. Despite all the hard work Captain Frank Savino put in to the weekends trips, the fish had other ideas.
Still, we managed to have a great time and are looking forward to the Labor Day Weekend trips. The great thing about fishing is that things change so quickly so we are hoping for a great finish to the Fishing with Phil 2013 Twilight season.

Rick Leighton from Hawthorne, California just finished his third chemotherapy treatment so to celebrate, he headed off to Surfside, CA to do some surf-fishing with some good friends.
Over 10 different species of fish, sharks & rays were caught on the very special day. Special not only because of the fishing but special because good friends came together for a day that will last forever in all our minds.

Captain Chris Batts from Harbor Breeze Cruises was on a Memorial trip this morning when he sighted a great white shark near the Avalon Bank around 10:30AM. Prior to seeing the great white shark, Batts also saw an estimated 60 pound mako shark about 7 miles from Long Beach.
Batts has seen 4-5 great white sharks this year; more than he has ever seen before. You can hear more about these encounters as well as blue whales lunge feeding so close to Batts that he was fearful that one of the leviathans were going to hit him.

Joey Helgren, owner of the Oceanside 95 out of Helgren's Oceanside wants to make customer service his number one priority.
With that in mind, he has arranged for veteran Captain Ben Griffith to take over the helm of the Oceanside 95.
"We are going to do everything in our power to make sure fishing on the Oceanside 95 is a fun and good experience," said Griffith.
"Ben has been doing this for a longtime," said Helgren. "Everyone knows what a great Captain and fisherman he is but he also treats people with the dignity and respect they deserve."
Griffith will be kicking things off with a special 3 1/2 day Labor Day Weekend trip departing Friday at 1pm. The cost of the trip, including meals is $699 and it will be limited to 28 anglers (with the right to overbook by 2). Mexican permits are extra.
"We want people to come back to the Oceanside 95 and that's the reason for the super low price," said Griffith.
The trip will focus on the extraordinary bluefin tuna bite that is currently taking place in the waters of Northern Baja California. In addition to the bluefin, there has been yellowtail, dorado and a hint of yellowfin tuna.

Phil Friedman was proud to be the Huck Finn Fishing Derby Emcee again in 2013. You'll see some of the fun and fishing action in this PFO video. Phil hopes to see you for the 2014 event and hopes to see more and more kids fishing and enjoying the "GREAT OUTDOORS."
This is a Free Event! The Community Services Department and Let’s Go Fishing at the Huntington Beach pier will host the annual Huck Finn Fishing Derby on the Huntington Beach Pier. Children ages 4 through 15 are invited to experience the fun of recreational fishing off the Huntington Beach pier with prizes given to both the largest and smallest fish caught and best dressed Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher participants.
The Huck Finn fishing derby begins at 9:15 am and will conclude at noon; check in begins at 8:00 am. Bait will be provided to registered participants as well as a limited amount of loaner rods offered by CA Fish and Game. Register at any Community Center or online at www.HBsands.org.
