Captain Frank Savino was getting nervous. He had anchored the Enterprise over a massive spot of bass on last Saturday's twilight Fishing with Phil Trip but the fish were not biting. "This is the hardest part," said Savino. "Everything is perfect but you can't make em bite."
Sometimes you will hear grumbling on deck. "Why doesn't he move." "Lets try somewhere else." A Captain has to endure these comments knowing full well that the fish he meters below are going to bite at sometime and just hope that sometime isn't after it's time to go home.
"I guess the fish didn't get the memo that they were supposed to bite at 10:30," said Savino. Then at 10:45pm, a fat calico bass came over the rail. Then another followed by another. Soon there were multiple hook-ups on calico bass to 5 pounds and sand bass to 6.5-pounds.
Everyone fishing a leadhead and squid as well as throwing a swimbait was getting a chance. Steve Phelps got a limit of nice calico bass as did several other anglers. There were also some nice sand bass as the action continued to heat up.
"I hope you'll forgive me," said Savino. "I just can't leave this." As you'll see in the Phil Friedman Outdoors video, the action continued past midnight treating anglers to a memorable night of bass fishing.
"I'm hoping this is the beginning of lots more summer twilight action to come," said Savino.
