Fishing with Phil Twilight trip on the Enterprise kicks bass

What a great way to start the Fishing with Phil Twilight trips on the Enterprise out of Long Beach Marina Sportfishing. The lucky anglers on board were greeted with calm seas, 67 degree water, live sqid for bait and about 3 keeper sand bass per angler.

"It's game on," said Peter Slonsky from Piranha Custom Fishing Rods. "What a great trip," said the eventual jackpot winner with about a 4-pound sand bass.

The Enterprise has only a 1/2 hour run to the fishing grounds. Skipper Frank Savino said he was metering sand bass and barracuda when he anchored on the first spot. Before long, keeper sand bass were being taken.

Best method seemed to be a 1-2 ounce leadhead tipped with live or fresh dead squid. Besides some nice sand bass, one angler had the hook pull on a halibut the crew thought would go about 12-pounds. "That was a heart-breaker," said Captain Frank Savino. "There's more where that came from," he said.

There were several spots of barracuda too but they were not too eager to bite. Conditions all seem to point to an immanent barracuda bite so please bring a jig stick if you have one. It wouldn't surprise me if that bite were to take off on the Saturday night trip.

"This was really a great way for me to kick the season off," said Jorge Bocanegra who had three legal bass. "Besides some fun fishing, there was a beautiful sunset to the west while a giant full moon was rising to the east."

Dave Han from Anaheim Hills was on fire limiting out on big sand bass. He also won a new fishing rod in the Fishing with Phil Raffle on the way home. Others won a PFO shirt, some albacore feathers and a FREE fishing trip out of Seaforth Sportfishing.

The next trip is Saturday, May 25 departing at 6:30pm and returning just after midnight insuring a great night on the water and free parking. The cost for a great night on the water is only $38.
