I have good news and bad news about all the goods the PFO group to to Rosarito Beach for the Tijuana Orphanage. That Orphanage closed down as a result of the walls coming down and not enough funds to keep the children fed. Thankfully, the kids have all been relocated and are doing as well as could be expected.
That sent two really great employees from the Rosarito Beach Hotel in search of another recipient. Claudia Plascencia and Zenobio Rodriguez are two of the finest people you would ever want to meet. Claudia works in check-in at the Hotel and Zenobio is a gracious bellman who will many times greet you upon your arrival.
The duo set out to find an orphanage close to their home town in Rosarito Beach and found one that they never knew existed. It’s called Rancho del Nino Nueva Vida and is run by Lourdes Martinez. They have boys and girls there from 2-16 years of age.
“Zenobio and I are thankful for the all the great things you brought own with you as you have made a difference in these children’s lives,” said Plascentia. “We are longtime residents of Rosarito Beach and never even knew this place existed. Now we have met kids that really need our help and even some children who go to school with our kids.”
It must also be mentioned that the entire Torres family at the Rosarito Beach Hotel helps us in every way by storing our goods for as long as needed as well as offering a lot of other support.
There are an estimated 10 million orphans in Mexico who struggle to survive without the support and protection of parents or the love of a family environment. Many of these children are homeless, have no schooling, no medical care and very little food.
PFO will continue to do what we can whenever we head south with a group form the United States as it has become an integral part of every one of our trips. Cruz Soto from Wilmington, CA worked his tail off and gathered over 40-bags of essentials for this trip. “It’s a part of every PFO trip,” said Soto. “We have our margaritas, bonfires on the beach, horseback riding on the beach and lobster dinners; but we also get to do something good for those less fortunate than ourselves.”
