Dave Hansen Guide Service update from Catalina Island

Captain Dave Hansen from Dave Hansen Guide Services was at Catalina Island today helping some clients to catch more fish. Hansen said that the yellowtail and white seabass bite were slow but there were plenty of calico bass and sheepshead to provide action.

There has been some good schools of yellowtail swimming around Catalina and with the full moon on July 3, many are thinking a white seabass bite is imminent.

Today, Hansen was on board the 44-foot Pacifica Lyons Fish owned by Pat Lyons. Lyons was on his annual trip to Catalina Island with his family where he spends an entire week.

Part of the trip includes having Hansen on board so he can catch more fish. Hansen said that the exotic fish like yellowtail were off the bite today because of a lack of proper conditions. "There was no current today," said Hansen. "No current; no fish."

Hansen provides a service where he will accompany you on your boat and teach you how you can maximize your angling experience. Hansen holds a 100-ton ocean operators license and gives his father all the credit for getting him in the fishing game.

"My service offers those of you that own your own boat, the opportunity to take the learning curve out of both boating and fishing, and/or refine your fishing skills, by allowing me to teach you various skills that are vital to successful fishing trips," said Hansen.

Hansen service includes hands on instruction on the following and more:

a) Boat handling skills(docking).
b) How to use your electronics.
b) Fishing spots along our coast, and most importantly, how to fish them.
c) Tying rigs and knots.
d) Bait selection.

Of course, you can fire as many questions as you like at Captain Dave during your trip as he is happy to help you in any way.
