Enterprise skipper Andy Siratt is excited. "This is the best fishing I've seen in 10-years," said Siratt from the Enterprise on Friday morning. "It's wide open sand bass and barracuda." Several other boats were experiencing much the same.
The Native Sun out of Long Beach Sportfishing and skipper Gabriel Ceballos reported limits of sand bass on their twilight trips the past two nights as local fishing has really come together. On nights when the bite has been touchy, 12-pound test has worked best but lately, 20-25 pound test has been fine. "I still like our anglers to bring the lighter line as you never know when these things (sand bass) may get finicky," said Ceballos.
Don Ashley from Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach thinks that conditions are driving the phenomenal fishing. "The two previous cold water years made for more nutrients in the water, more bait, more kelp and yes more fish." "Now is the time for anglers to get out on the water."
Alex Masumoto can feel the excitement in his San Pedro based tackle store, the Rusty Hook. "There is a definite buzz about the local bite," said Masumoto. "This is what we have been waiting for."
The weather forecast is for great weather this weekend and if the bite holds, it looks like some tremendous fishing.
