Fish reports are excellent this past weekend with limits of rockfish and near limits of Lingcod with more than one lingcod per passenger.
News Item: Courtesy of the Sportfishing Conservancy, passengers on this charter will receive a free entry into a fishing tournament in Santa Barbara Saturday morning, October 12. The free entry includes 5 raffle ticket for prizes including a grand prize of a new Hobie kayak. See sportfishingconservancy.org for details. Look under “Events”-“No Motor Tournament”.
We will have other raffle prizes and giveaways on board the Pacific Islander.
The Captain of the vessel, Steve Virtue, says the best gear to bring for the rockcod and lingcod are your usual assortment of rockcod gear for fishing 200 feet and shallower water. We will likely be fishing Santa Rosa, San Miguel, or San Nicolas Island, depending upon weather and conditions.
The plan likely will be to fill out rockfish limits and then move to shallower water for lingcod unless exotics make a reappearance. Captain recommended gear includes sinkers 10 to 16 oz for the deeper water and a 2 dropper loop set up with light circle hooks around 3/0 in size. Other effective gear has been the usual assortment of heavy jigs like Jax or Ahi, 6oz leadheads with large plastics and slugs. Orange has been a good color for artificials. All the above have been doing well so all you really need are the sinkers and hooks.
Everybody on board, 16 years old or older, must have a California Fishing License. You may purchase a fishing license online at https://www.ca.wildlifelicense.com/InternetSales/ or obtain one at the landing. One day licenses are approximately $15.
The landing office will be open until our departure and they have full tackle shop and rental rods available. The Captain will be making the boat available for boarding between 5:30 and 6 pm the night of our departure. The boat has bunks so you can come early and pick out a bunk and get settled in. The vessel has a basic shower available which might be of interest to those participating in the surf fishing tournament in Santa Barbara or another activity.
Tickets purchased are firm and refunds cannot be provided unless the charter provider cancels the charter (e.g. dangerous weather). If the event is cancelled full credit for amounts paid will be allowed for a future Fishing With Phil event. If the trip cannot be rescheduled refunds will be provided less any payment processing costs incurred by Philip Friedman Outdoors, Inc. We may have a small waiting list available to assist you if for some reason you cannot attend. Call us ASAP to take best advantage of this if the need arises.
