According to the video which is Spanish, Humpback whales when sick will sometime come too close to the shore and some will get stranded on sand bars like this one did. This Humpback was estimated to be 10 meters long and weigh around 15 tons.
Hours upon hours of work proved futile as the whale was exhausted. "It was incredible. About 30 pangas and launches out there trying to help this stranded whale right off the beach on one of the shoals," said Roldan. "Folks were lined up in the streets with cameras and binoculars."
In the end, the leviathan was liberated and made it's way to deeper water where presumably, it could continue its journey back to Alaska.
